The Compromise

Market Analysis
Comparing current models on a 2x2 matrix helped show gaps in existing scooter offerings. Two key factors for consumers and the scooter’s form and features.
Design Criteria
Sketches
Development of my concept started with rough sketches. I used these existing scooter form factors to explore various mechanisms which would allow the scooter to collapse for transport when not in use. I also explored ways the handlebars could function as both a phone mount when riding, and a handle for transport when not riding.
Physical Prototyping
Constructing full scale models of both the scooter body and the handlebars allowed me to further refine the mechanics of the folding mechanism and do ergonomic testing of the handlebars and rolling arrangement.
